Uncover the subtle and dynamic material in you
The beauty of performance art, what makes it unique I think, is you.
Seems simple enough, but then again who are you?
What do you want to say?
I consider it my job to help you unearth performance material as you examine how you treat your self. It’s remarkable how consistent the split between observer and the observed causes conflict in people (i.e. how it is an eternal fire of performance material).
SUBTLE
There are a lot of meditative practices out there, and the ones I use in training for a performance are changing. They have since my teaching gig one week after graduating high school. I’ve since used Noh exercises, mindfulness meditation, Tibetan Buddhist meditations, contact improvisation, Sufi music, ChiGong, LifeStream, singing and Critical Alignment.
DYNAMIC
By jumping, stretching, lifting each other, flying, flipping, slapping, dropping and holding ourselves upside-down we can cultivate willpower. But as Vladimir Sazhin says, if you’re doing all the body stuff right and not smiling, you are still not doing the technique.
